About Anthony

Hi. I am Anthony Pesec.

It is my goal to be a Senator who represents you and our community with pride.

I am from the sensible centre.

I have successfully established my own business and believe at this point in my life I can commit to providing fresh leadership the ACT deserves. I believe strongly in tackling the big issues of our time like climate change.

My parents migrated from Croatia and settled here in Canberra to make a new life and they instilled in me my values of hardwork, enterprise and giving back to your community.

I attended local public primary and high schools. My father was a cement renderer and house builder in Canberra and as a teenager I often helped out with simple tasks on his building sites which later inspired me to study for civil engineering at university. After graduating I worked as a site engineer on various large infrastructure and building construction projects.

In 2001-2002 I studied for an MBA at the Australian Graduate School of Management, having been awarded a SYLFF scholarship (Ryoichi Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellowship Fund) from the Tokyo Foundation in Japan. There I undertook two internships (Boral in Sydney and Barclays Capital in London) and studied on exchange in Barcelona. Upon graduating from my MBA I worked as an investment banker for Barclays Capital in London.

In 2005 I moved to Croatia and started a successful corporate finance consultancy called Illyria Capital.

In 2012 my father passed away and in 2015 I returned to Australia to be closer to my elderly mother. Upon returning in 2015 I co-founded IES (Intelligent Energy Solutions Pty Ltd)

My volunteer work includes serving on the board of Adria Retirement Village, a non-profit aged-care facility in Stirling, ACT that was founded in 1994 by the Canberra Croatian community.

I’m also treasurer of ArtCircleResidence, a non-profit organisation founded in 2018 by the German Embassy in Canberra. Together with its Australian and European partners and sponsors it establishes connections between artists and wine-growers by organising events throughout Australia and Europe.

I applied for and received Croatian citizenship while I was living there. On 25th March 2019, I received confirmation from the Croatian Embassy in Canberra that my Croatian citizenship had been successfully revoked. You can view that confirmation letter here.
